There are a number of aircraft museums worldwide. One particularly famous and well respected aircraft museum is the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. which houses a number of exhibits covering civil and military aircraft, many of which are suspended from the roofs of the buildings. Aircraft museums have been popular tourist attractions for many years and they are especially popular with families and aviation enthusiasts. Some aircraft museums feature displays of flying aircraft, or will hold air shows, this is one of the most popular features of aircraft museums and those which hold air shows attract a large number of patrons.
One of the most well known aircraft museums in the UK is the Royal Air Force Museum located at Cosford Aerodrome. The site features several hangers converted into aircraft museums which are home to a variety of aircraft from throughout the RAF’s history. It is known for having one of the most extensive exhibits of World War Two aviation of all the aircraft museums in the country. Also, because Cosford is located on a working RAF air field it frequently hosts air shows, giving it an exciting edge over other aircraft museums. Many people visit the air shows at Cosford every year.
Numerous museums that are not specifically aircraft museums will often feature large exhibits on aviation. These are frequently military museums, such as the Imperial War Museum in London, which whilst no actually an aircraft museum frequently displays extensive exhibits on military aviation.
